YB Dr Haji Mamad, trained at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL) during his horsemanship in 1982-1984. Soon after completing his Housemanship, he practiced at Hospital Sultanah Nur Zahirah (1984-1985) and Hospital Desa Kuala Berang (1986) which was located in his hometown. In 1986, he started his own clinical practice and became the Director of Klinik Mamad Sdn Bhd until 2018.

He then embarked on his journey in politics as a State Legislature and Deputy Exco of Infrastructure from 1999 to 2004. Currently, YB Dr Haji Mamad is the State Infrastructure, Public Facilities, Utilities, and Green Technology Committee in Terengganu.
